MIA Miami Taxi Stands, Rates, and Companies

• Miami Taxi Stand Locations

MIA Airport Taxicabs and Shuttles are available only at the baggage claim area (“Arrival Level”) on the ground floor.  Do Not call a cab to the MIA Airport, reservations will not be accepted.

Take the next available taxi in line.  If you step to the curb and do not see a taxicab, they are still available — ask the uniformed attendant to call the next cab forward from the standing lot.  If you are with a group, request a mini-van, no additional charge.

As you travel around the Miami area, the Miami-Dade County Government’s authoritative list of   Taxi Stand Locations. pdf  may prove helpful.

• Miami Taxi Rates, Fares

IF traveling to a flat-rate zone, there is only the zone charge, plus a $1.00 fuel surcharge, plus the tip — Done.

The April 2013 Flat-Rate Zones Are:
A: Immediate Airport Area, $10
B & C: Extended Airport Areas, $14
1: Golden Beach & Sunny Isles, $52
2: Bal Harbor & Surfside, $43
3: Normandy Isles, $37
4: Miami Beach, $32
5: Key Biscayne, $41

If your destination is outside of a flat-rate zone, the fare is based on 1/6 of a mile, plus airport or port trip origination fee (if applicable), plus road tolls (if any), plus delay time in traffic (if any), plus the $1.00 fuel surcharge, plus tip.

Miami Taxi Companies and Rates are regulated by the Miami-Dade County Government.  Check their website for the most comprehensive, up-to-date information for Taxi Rates, Policies, and Zone Maps:

Miami taxicabs do not charge for baggage.  However, with today’s gasoline prices expect a Fuel Surcharge, as stated within the above pages.  If applicable, Road Tolls will be added at the discounted SunPass rate.  (SunPass is the local vehicle transponder system that allows payment of road tolls without stopping.)  No sales tax.

Space permitting, a taxi may carry up to eight passengers (plus the driver).  The fare is for the trip, not the number of passengers.  For more than eight persons consider calling a shuttle or renting a van.  Note:  Children under five years of age  are not allowed in a taxi unless You provide a child seat (shuttles provide child seats).

Most taxi drivers take great pride in their skills.  The companies and governing body very much appreciate compliments, suggestions and complaints, as keeping a top-notch reputation is critical to the industry as well as the larger business community.  Taxi drivers compete for quarterly and annual awards.  To nominate your driver, send an email to consumer@miamidade.gov with particulars.  Use this   Nomination Form .pdf  as a guide even if you cannot use it directly from your internet device.

You are entitled to the most direct route.  However, a seasoned professional taxi driver may have worthy advice when it comes to avoiding traffic congestion, construction zones, school zones, active railroad crossings, and bridge openings, not to mention festivals, marathons, football games, concerts and rallies.  You are in full charge of alternative route decisions:  your call.
