The Grapeland Water Park, also known as Black Beard’s Beach, is a pirate-themed water park Very close to the MIA Miami International Airport (less than two miles).  Those with a long layover could very easily Taxi  back and forth, especially if kids need to be entertained.  (= Taxi Zone A: $10.00 flat rate + $1.00 fuel surcharge + tip.  Note: children under five years of age not allowed in a taxi unless You provide a child seat.)

$5 Lockers (plus a $5 refundable deposit) will hold a change of clothes and valuables while you sun and swim.  Lockers are about the size of a large soft tote bag.  Sunscreen can be purchased as needed (see Climate).  Freshen up with Showers in the men’s room and in the ladies’ room afterwards.

Water lovers and sun worshipers will enjoy this beautiful, family-friendly park.  The entry fee covers all equipment (except lockers) and activities (except food and beverage, of course):

Two Water Slide Pools
Zero Entry Pool (Walk-In, Roll-In)
Buccaneer River (Lazy River)
Overhead Spray Wet Zones
Shipwreck Island, Lookout Towers
Reclining Lounges, Shade Trees
Showers, Lockers, Snack Bar
All pools are handicap accessible.
Water wheelchairs as available.

Kids should be at least 42″ tall to enter the Buccaneer River (lazy river).  Shorter kids may enter by wearing one of the free life vests in addition to one of the free inner tubes.

$5 per person FAMILY FRIDAYS are on the LAST FRIDAY of each month, beginning Friday, May 30, 2014.  Parents, bring your kids at 5:30 PM to swim and slide.  Then, at 8:00 PM, move to the recreation pool to enjoy a “DIVE IN MOVIE”.

2014 Movie Schedule Posted Here Soon:

The water park Snack Bar offers pizza, hotdogs, salad, fruit, yogurt, chocolate milk and such.  Other food and beverage Can Not be brought into the park Except for proven restricted diets.  Food Rules are detailed on the Grapeland Water Park  website.

Weather Policy:  “Always keep your receipt.  In the event of lightning and/or inclement weather, all patrons must leave the park immediately.  Your receipt will serve as a rain check.  The rain check is redeemable for a one time admission only; expires one (1) year from purchase date.  If your receipt is lost or missing, no rain check can be issued.  Always keep your receipt.”

The Grapeland Water Park is a City of Miami public facility managed by their Parks and Recreation Department.  Same for the Melreese International Links Golf Course  next door, which is also open to the walk-in public.  View both on a  Google Map  (select satellite view and zoom in for amazing details).

An Idea:  For a convenient air-conditioned meal after a full day of sun at the water park, the Melreese Country Club Restaurant next door offers a full menu, and does not require a dress code (see menu and review).

Another Idea:  Some family members may prefer to golf while other family members swim — meet afterwards at the Melreese Country Club Restaurant !
