Key West Hotels
By Verdina Roka
Key West Hotels range from luxurious to moderate. Low-end hotels and motels no longer exist. If you enjoy being out late at night, locating within crawling distance of Old Town at the north end of Duval Street would be first choice. For the mellow side, look toward the southern end of Duval Street. You are on a small island, though, so don’t sweat it if choices are slim.
Key West also has many adorable bed and breakfast opportunities. Often with cozy courtyards and charming pathways framed by tropical plants, a peaceful island ambiance. There may or not be a hot tub, probably not a pool, but with ocean beaches nearby that hardly matters. Live like an islander! Ask ahead for free airport pick-up and drop-off arrangements.
If you are on-island long enough to make use of personal transportation, consider bicycle rentals, scooter rentals, or electric car rentals from one of the many vendors — who will also arrange free customer pick-up and drop-off service.
In Key West it is easy to navigate around an occasional traffic jam, so getting to the airport from any location in time to catch a flight should not be a problem. Keep in mind, though, the locals are likely on “island time” when it comes to checking out and returning rented vehicles so don’t cut your schedule too-too close.
